Week #8 Round Table
Welcome back to Truth Serum Football’s Round Table discussion! Week #8 is here and there’s plenty to discuss! Let’s get right to it with a few questions for David from Genesis Sports Cards and Truth Serum Football, Joey Fickle the founder of Truth Serum Football, Dr. Kevin Murray of Fantasy Football Unlimited and Robbie from Rumboyz Network!
Q1. What is your upset of the week?
David: Bucs over the Bills. Buffalo looks straight broken, Baker and the boys will take advantage and get a highlight win in primetime!
Joey: The Rams are 6 point dogs against Dem Boys in Arlington, but not so fast... Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp will have a great time against this secondary that is missing its best corner Diggs for the rest of the season. They are currently 3rd in passing yards allowed, but if they chip Micah Parsons all night to help keep Stafford upright, that ranking will fall outside the top 5.
Kevin: Joe Burrow and the Bengals are fresh off of their bye week and looking to regain their winning ways vs the 49ers. After back-to-back losses, the niners are dealing with key injuries that leave them vulnerable to a third straight loss. Look for the Bengals to give them all they’ve got and pull off the upset.
Robbie: Rams at a +215 over Dallas, run game is sufficient enough to burn clock and keep the ball out of Dak's hands, Aaron Donald will pressure Dak into throwing picks to the Rams secondary, the Rams WR core is nothing to sleep on and America is happier when Dallas losses.
Q2. Start, bench, cut (PPR): Rashee Rice, DeAndre Hopkins, Gabe Davis.
David: Start Davis, Bench Rice, Cut Hopkins. This is purely thinking ahead. Davis is a big play threat and Rice is a rookie. Cut the old man of the bunch.
Joey: I don't follow rules... I'll TRADE D-Hop to the Chiefs, Bench Gabe, and Stash Rice. I'll Cut Najee Harris though.
Kevin: START: Rashee Rice is taking the role as the #2 target in KC and with Mahomes at the helm, Rice is poised to build upon his recent success.
BENCH: Gabe Davis is a player that you want on your fantasy rosters during this stretch of the season with so many bye weeks impacting your fantasy roster. He’s a great flyer to plug in when you need to take a gamble and shoot for a high upside player in a pinch.
CUT: DeAndre Hopkins has had his season impacted by an offense with very little juice. Can Will Levis create the spark need for the veteran wide receiver to return to glory? Unfortunately, the odds are against that from happening.
Robbie: Davis of course went off Thursday night so my favorite option here is Rashee Rice. Rice is lighting it up for the Chiefs in his rookie year and despite the return of Mecole Hardman last week I think Rice will continue to flourish in this high power offense.
Q3. Who is your sleeper play of the week?
David: Tyson Bagent! Another one of my upsets this week is Bears over the Chargers. While Herbert and company can be explosive, they've shown me nothing on the season to prove they are a competitor this season. Let's go Bagent!
Joey: It's time for Jahan Dotson to show us something. They play the Eagles who plan on lighting the scoreboard up. The Commanders will have to keep pace. He ran a team high 42 routes last week and received 8 targets only 1 week after delivering a goose egg. They know they need a spark, and Jahan Dotson's time is now. You just gotta have the balls to play him.
Kevin: Jahan Dotson has had a very difficult 2023 thus far as he has certainly not lived up to the preseason hype that had him considered as a sneaky high upside WR to get onto your fantasy roster. He’s still talented. He’s due. The matchup with Philadelphia this week should provide the right game script vs a beatable secondary for Jahan to have the impact that we have been waiting for. If you are in a pinch, Dotson is worth the gamble.
Robbie: Trey McBride is my sleeper for the week. The TE position has been a wasteland this year but with Ertz out, McBride is an awesome streaming option with an increased workload.
Q4. The trade deadline is next week, who's a big name player you expect to see moved and where does he go?
David: King Henry to the Bills!
Joey: Look, it's obvious the Broncos and Titans are selling after their recent transactions.... Jeudy & Sutton, Henry & Hopkins, stand out as the favorites to be moved... Who's buying? I'm not buying the Jeudy to Colts rumors. Why? They aren't legitimate Contenders.. I'll tell you who should be buying and we will see how it goes.
Bills, Ravens, Chiefs, and.... The Jets are a QB away from a deep playoff run.
Kevin: With the way the season has unfolded for the Tennessee Titans, it is probably time to blow things up and rebuild their roster. An aging, yet still talented running back, does nothing to help this franchise move forward if he stays on the roster. This trade deadline offers a great opportunity to acquire draft picks from a running back needy team, such as Baltimore. Even teams like Buffalo could be looking to bolster their RB room if a back like Derrick Henry were made available.
Robbie: Derrick Henry. Talks have been heating between the Titans and 3 teams to my knowledge, the Bills, Cowboys, and Ravens. Personally I feel if the Titans want to do right by Henry and give him the best chance at winning a ring, I feel Baltimore is a great landing spot where he and Lamar can help each other to their first Lombardi's.
Q5. Nearly halfway through the season, who's your winner from each division?
David: Start of season it was Mia, Pit, Jax, KC, Dal, GB, TB, SF...and I'm gonna double down and stick with em!
Joey: I'm going to claim that the current division leaders are all correct... Except for the fraudulent Falcons. The NFC South will belong to the Baker led Buccaneers.
Kevin: Bills, Chiefs, Ravens, Jaguars, Eagles, 49ers, Lions, Saints.
Robbie: NFC
Commanders (can't stand Philly)
Falcons (it's not pretty but they win games)
49ers (just too high octane)
Lions (Detroit deserves this)
AFC
Chiefs (Mahomes is NFL Kobe Bryant)
Dolphins (McDaniels is just too fun to watch call plays)
Bengals (Joe Shiesty comeback szn)
Jaguars (The LondonVille Shaguars are playing good football and would be entertaining in a SB)
