Breadwinners and Bedshitters Week 12

Week 12 was a week to truly be thankful for, with friends, family, football and a feast for most this week. There was plenty of feasting to go around on Thursday fantasy players feasted on the competition. This trend continued into Sunday with a few jaw dropping performances. While Thanksgiving is a time of giving thanks and enjoying some great food, there is that inevitable down side of over indulging yourself. There were a couple of players this week who are glaring examples of what that looks like. Without further ado -

Breadwinners

Josh Jacobs

Josh Jacobs may have said he doesn’t care about your fantasy teams, but we know he didn’t mean it. Jacobs ran all over the Seahawks for four quarters on Sunday, and then ran over them some more in overtime. For the day Jacobs ran the ball 33 times for 229 yards and 2 TDs, including the 86 yard house call to close out the game in overtime. The fact that Jacobs had 6 catches and 74 yards was an afterthought.

Mike White

Mike White started the fourth game of his career Sunday for the Jets and helped them secure a win, and hold on to the final playoff spot in the AFC. In NFL history only 5 QBs have had 2 of their first 4 games result in 300 yards and 3 TDs. Mike White is one of them. Mike White could be here to stay and the Jets very well could have found their answer at the QB position.

Trevor Lawrence

Trevor Lawrence is finally living up to his billing as a generation prospect, and that was never more apparent than this past week. Lawrence posted his third top 5 QB finish on the season and has been a top 10 QB for 4 of the last 6 weeks. On Sunday he completed 29 passes for 321 yards and 3 TDs. This was largely without the services of the Jaguars best offensive player, Travis Etienne. This was Lawrence’s third consecutive game with at least 230 yards and no interceptions and was capped off nicely by a last minute drive to get in the end zone, and won on a Zay Jones 2 point conversion. Lawrence is looking better every week and if his front office can find him some weapons in the offseason he could be dangerous.

Jalen Hurts

What more is there to say about Jalen Hurts? With his 5th straight top 6 week, and his 7th top 5 week of the year, Hurts has to be on the shortest of short lists for MVP candidates. The Packers wouldn’t stop coming on Sunday, whether it was Rodgers or Love, and the Eagles needed 40 points to put them away. This was no issue for Hurts who threw for 153 yards and 2 TDs. Those numbers don’t seem MVP worthy, but then you factor in his 157 yards rushing on 17 carries and it’s hard not to give him some credit. All of this was accomplished while Miles Sanders rushed for 143 yards and a TD. Kenneth Gainwell also had a rushing TD. For the day the Eagles almost rushed for 400 yards.

Bedshitters

Alvin Kamara

Do you remember back in week 8 when Alvin Kamar blew up and we all thought this was the start of his RB1 reemergence? Me neither. Kamara has been awful as of late and despite an uninspiring but respectable RB 18 finish in week 11, he had his worst game of the season on Sunday. In total Kamara rushed the ball 7 times for 13 yards. He did catch six balls for 37 yards, but most of that production was wiped out by two very costly turnovers during the game. One of those lost fumbles was inside of the five, and a TD would have been nice, seeing how he hasn’t hit the endzone in a month. The Saints are a trainwreck and AK may be the conductor. Choo. Choo. Choo.

Christian McCaffrey

Christian McCaffrey is in load management hell right now. At one time the premier back in all of fantasy football, CMC looked like a match made in heaven for the 49ers when they acquired him a few weeks back. He saw just 11 rushes on the day for 32 yards. He did salvage the day somewhat with 4 catches for 17 yards but also is dealing with “knee irritation” that will have him listed as day to day. He’s not the bell cow you drafted him to be, and with fantasy playoffs right around the corner, there are safer options to plug into your lineups.

Dameon Pierce

If there is such a thing as a rookie wall, the remains of Dameon Pierce are likely splattered all over it. Pierce has had a rough few weeks and this week was the worst of all. For the day Pierce only saw 5 carries for 8 yards, and added 3 catches for another 8 yards. It’s his second consecutive game with less than five fantasy points. The Texans have a rough four game stretch coming up and it looks like they’ll be spending a majority of their time playing from behind.
